I did the vinegar and water wash and it helped a little but there is still some pus and her ear is still really red and inflamed. My German shepherd keeps getting ear infection but this time her ear is really red and smells bad and there is pus. If your dog leaves your sight you will not be able to call him back. This can include an unfenced yard, dog park, and activities such as hiking. Never allow your dog loose where he could be in danger. If your older dog becomes deaf or loses some of his hearing, as owners we need to keep that in mind to keep him safe. If this is the case I would definitely recommend your dog be examined by your veterinarian. If the loss of hearing occurs quickly and your dog either has a known ear infection, or is holds his head at an odd angle, or scratching at his ear or head or shaking his head more often than normal it could indicate an ear infection or foreign body in the ear such as a grass seed. Deafness occurring in an older dog is usually not due to a medical condition rather it is due to aging of the internal structures of the ear. ![]()
